Harry W. Wiertzema, age 61 of Little Rock, IA died Sunday, August 2, 2009 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

Funeral service were held Wednesday, August 5th at the First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, IA, with burial at Pleasant View Cemetery in Little Rock.

Harry Wiertzema was born February 4, 1948 in rural Sheldon, IA to Harry L. and Dolores (Waltjers) Wiertzema. He grew up in the Little Rock area and attended Little Rock School. Harry joined the United States Army and was a member of the Infantry. He was stationed in Viet Nam from 1968 to 1970, when he received his honorable discharge. On October 28, 1972 Harry was united in marriage to Susan “Susie” Buss at the First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, IA. Harry and Susie were blessed with one child, Adam.

Harry was a member of the American Legion Post No. 316 in Little Rock, IA. Harry’s employment started with Bennies 66 and Farming for Dick Kruse. He also worked for AMPI, Cayle Craft, Hubards Implement and Sudenga’s. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He also liked to tinker in his garage. Riding his scooter and going for rides in his pickup on nice days, was something Harry liked to do. But mostly he enjoyed visiting with his family and friends. This past Sunday, Harry died at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 61.

Harry is survived by his wife of 37 years, Susie; son, Adam (fiance’ Chelsie Klaassen) Wiertzema of Little Rock; his mother, Dolores Wiertzema of Little Rock; sister, Georgia (James) Whitehouse of Estherville, IA; brothers, Roger (Susan) Wiertzema of Little Rock, IA, and Robert (Kim) Wiertzema of Little Rock, IA; special great-nieces, Mackenzie, Shelby and Hayden; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harry L.; grandparents; and sister-in-law Mavis Jurrens.
