Gertrude Kahl, 91, of Rock Rapids died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital, Rock Rapids.

Services were Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rock Rapids, with interment in Riverview Cemetery.

Gertrude Reimers was born Jan. 14, 1910, near Alvord, the daughter of John and Theresa Reimers. She graduated from Alvord High School, attended Cedar Falls Teachers College and began teaching.

On Oct. 23, 1936, she married Ferd Kahl at Menno, S.D. They farmed near Steen, Minn., while she continued teaching. They later moved to the George area, but returned to Steen in 1945 where they operated a grocery store. After being out of the teaching profession 19 years, she attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D., to re-establish her teaching credentials. She taught third grade at Rock Rapids several years. On Nov. 21, 1969, the couple retired and moved to Rock Rapids.

Her husband died Dec. 13, 1989. Survivors include nephews and nieces.
