Fern Nelson, 83, of Sioux Falls, S.D., died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls.

Services were Friday at East Side Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, with interment in Richland Cemetery, Inwood.

Fern Schlumbohm was born April 30, 1918, in Hawarden, the daughter of Herman and Marie (Moeller) Schlumbohm. She grew up and attended school in Alvord, graduating in 1936.

On June 25, 1941, she married Walter Nelson in Alvord. They lived in Sioux Falls where she was employed with Midwest Beach 18 years.

Her husband died March 15, 1994.

Survivors include one brother, Wallace of Burreon, Kan., and two sisters, Viola Childress and Mrs. Leo (Betty) Pedersen, both of Inwood.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Richard and Harold, and one sister, Evelyn Schlotfeldt.
