Rock Valley, IowaInwood, Iowa - Dale Grotjohn, 83, died Sunday, May 31, 2009 at Rock Rapids, Iowa Health Care Centre. Funeral service was held Wednesday at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley, IA with burial will be at Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Alvord, Iowa.
Dale Stanten Grotjohn was born July 24, 1925 to Allen and Hannah (Swenson) Grotjohn on a farm southwest of Inwood, Iowa. When he was 2 years old, the family farm moved northeast of Inwood. Dale attended country school just one mile north of the farm. He was united in marriage to Lila Bunde on October 19, 1948 in Luverne, Minnesota.
Dale enjoyed farming & raising livestock. He also enjoyed taking Lila dancing every Saturday night to the Arkota Ballroom, Sioux Falls, So. Dakota. Dale enjoyed sitting on the porch, watching traffic go by, listening to Paul Harvey on the radio, watching westerns and the news on TV, going for rides in the car, going to auction sales and reading the newspaper. Dale moved to Rock Rapids Health Care Centre in February, 2005.
Dale is survived by his wife, Lila of Little Rock, Iowa; four daughters: Judy Kerkvliet of Larchwood, Iowa, Carol (Steve) Rosenboom of Little Rock, Marcene (Clark) Ahders of Rock Rapids, Iowa and Paula Grotjohn of Rock Valley, Iowa; one son James (Cindy) Grotjohn of Inwood, Iowa; nine grandchildren: Tami Clark, Tadd Kerkvliet, Kathryn Rosenboom, Judd Rosenboom, Alex Ahders, Austin Ahders, Adam Grotjohn, Nathan Grotjohn and Stephanie Grotjohn; five great-grandchildren: Dylan, Mariah and Macy Clark, Taylor and Kyler Kerkvliet.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Susan Grotjohn; sisters and their husbands: Muriel (Melvin) Kruse and Ruth (Chester) Sorenson.
