Obituary: Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Gertrude Schipper, 87, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at Southridge Health Care Center, Sioux Falls. Funeral Service was Saturday at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.

Gertrude was born February 9, 1922 at Sioux Center, Iowa, daughter of Everett and Gertrude (DeVries) Van Putten. She graduated from Sioux Center, Iowa High School. Gertrude married Cornelius “Mike Schipper on April 30, 1946 at Sioux Center. Together they lived on a farm north of Ireton, Iowa until moving to Sioux Falls in 1957 and Inwood, Iowa in 1965. Gertrude and Mike moved back to Sioux Falls in 1986. Through the years Gertrude enjoyed cooking and various church activities. Mike died October 11, 2002. Gertrude had been in a nursing home since 1996

Surviving relatives include her children; Larry (Jody) Schipper of McKinney, Texas, Dwaine Schipper of Sioux Falls, Mark (Cindy) Schipper of Allen, Texas, Gretchen (Tim) Anderson of Brandon, South Dakota, and Jeffrey (Cheryl) Schipper of Sioux Falls; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Mike; her parents, Everett and Gertrude; brothers, Gerrit, Edward, and Rev. Gerben Van Putten; sisters, Sadie Van Putten and Edna Punt
