The deceased, George Gilbert Johnson, was born in the vicinity of George, Iowa on March 8, 1897, the sixth child in a family of 12 children. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Peter Johnson, who for many years lived on a farm in this vicinity. George spent the greater part of his life among us, growing to manhood here. He attended the rural school and later worked at home or helped with farm labor in this community. The last three years he spent east of Sibley, Iowa, where he was engaged in farm labor.

During his life, he enjoyed good health, and rarely ever, if ever, had to refrain from work because of illness or physical affliction.

On Tuesday morning, June 28, 1938, he went about his chores on the farm in preparation to take up the work in the field. As he was finishing the chores, he suddenly collapsed and fell, a stroke causing his collapse. He was taken to a Sibley hospital where, in spite of professional care, he died on Wednesday, June 29, at 11 a.m.., attaining the age of 41 years, 2 months and 21 days.

His parents, three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

He leaves to mourn his sudden departure, four brothers, they are Lloyd of George, Iowa, Ray and Frank of Balaton, Minnesota, Ernest of Worthington, Minnesota.; two sisters, Ester, Mrs. Albert Willemssen of Sibley, and Edna, Mrs. Neal Marsh of Sioux City. Besides these, he leaves other relatives and friends among whom we should mention the Jack Hilbrands family where he was employed.
