Al LaDassor age 94 of George, IA died Monday, February 9, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center of George, Iowa

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 13th at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church with Rev. Paul Fischer officiating. With burial in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George.

Alba Snover LaDassor, (“Al”), was born in Watertown, South Dakota, November 27, 1914. His parents were Harry LaDassor and Sevenia (Snover) LaDassor. Shortly after his birth his parents moved to Kanaranzi, Minnesota. Al attended grade school in Kanaranzi at School Dist. #23. He graduated in 1929. During his school years he lived with his maternal grandparents, George and Loretta Snover, in Kanaranzi. After working at various jobs Al set to work for the Rock Island Railroad on April 13, 1937. He did track maintenance work out of Estherville, Iowa. After leaving Estherville, later in 1937 he worked in numerous towns west of Estherville, still in the area of track maintenance.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army in October of 1943. He became a member of Company ‘D’, 393rd Special Service Engineers. After a very brief training period, he volunteered to go overseas where he served in England and France. He was discharged from the Army in December 1945. After his discharge he returned to Rock Rapids, Iowa, where he was working at the time he was drafted. He resumed his duties in track maintenance until he was called back to Estherville. He then went to work in the operating department, starting as a Brakeman in 1947. He was promoted to Conductor in 1954 and continued in that capacity until retiring from the railroad on February 6, 1969.

After retiring from the railroad he worked for the State Hospital in 1971,72 and 73. He and his wife, Lucille, then moved to George, IA where he worked for Sudenga Industries until August 1, 1976. He continued living in George until Lucille passed away in 1993. He was living at the George Good Samaritan Nursing Home at the time of his death.

Al is survived by his son, Lynn H. (Cheryl) LaDassor of Harrisburg, South Dakota; son-in-law, Ben Aning of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; many dearly loved grandchildren and great grandchildren; and special friends Gary and Emily Overgaard of Magnolia, Minnesota and Henry (Hank) Timmerman of George. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Sharon Aning.
