William Rypkema was born February 15, 1907 at Hull, Sioux county, Iowa, the son of Dick and Agnes (Vander Kooi) Rypkema. He attended Matlock, Iowa and Boyden, Iowa schools.

On February 15, 1929, he was united in marriage to Ida Smid in the home of her parents in George, Lyon county, Iowa. They farmed near George until 1958. He then drove school bus for 15 years and maintained the grounds and buses in the George school system until his retirement. Bill was an active member of Lyon County Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder and Sunday School Superintendent for years.

He died Friday, March 22, 1991, at the Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital in Rock Rapids, Lyon county, Iowa, at the age of 84 years, 1 month and 7 days. He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Ida, of George, Iowa; one daughter Better and her husband Gordon Siebring of George; two sons, John W. and his wife Donna of George, and Richard and his wife Elaine of Mandeville, Louisiana; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, John and Ralph Rypkema, both of George, and Marion Rypkema of Denver, Colorado; and a host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, 2 sisters, 1 granddaughter and 1 great-granddaughter.

Funeral services for William Rypkema were held Monday, March 15, 1991 at Lyon County Presbyterian Church of rural George, Iowa with interment in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery west of George.
