The funeral of Heinrich Jansen (one newspaper report said “Janssen”, although that is incorrect) who died Tuesday night of last week, (August 10, 1915 ) at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Ubbinga, was held Saturday afternoon, August 14, 1915 at Hope Reformed Church, near George, Lyon county, Iowa, Rev. Mr. Ziegler conducting the services.

Mr. Jansen was born at Moelenwarf, Amt Weener, Ostfriesland, Germany, on April 15, 1932. In 1864 he emigrated to America, settling in Stevenson county, Illinois, where he remained until March, 1885, at which time he moved with his family to Lyon county. Two weeks after arriving here, Mrs. Jansen (nee Anna Van Koten) passed away. Keeping the family together until the children had established homes for themselves, Mr. Jansen was a good father and devoted to his children. Of late years, he has made his home with his daughter Mrs. George (Grace, or “Maggie”) Ubbinga.

He had been ill for some time and as he was past eighty-three years of age, his condition gradually weakened and on the tenth of August he passed away.

Four sons, Hiram, Wöbbo (Webbo), Henry and Arend, and the daughter, Mrs. Ubbinga, besides a number of grandchildren and other relatives remain to mourn his death.
