Nathan “Bud” Knobloch, age 88 of Rock Rapids, Lyon county, Iowa, died Thursday August 28, 2008 at the Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids.

Funeral services were held Monday, September 1, 2008 at the Apostolic Christian Church in Lester, Lyon county, Iowa, with burial in the church cemetery.

Nathan “Bud” Knobloch was born July 25, 1920 to Jacob and Lydia (Traub) Knobloch near Alvord, Lyon county, Iowa. He received his education at Logan #6 Country School in rural Alvord. He worked the family farm with his Dad and brothers until the time of his marriage. On March 23, 1946 he was united in marriage to Irene Merkel in Elgin, Illinois. The couple made their home in rural Alvord where they were blessed with six children. Bud was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church.

Bud farmed all his life and he was very fond of working with draft horses, especially the teams he trained. He was able to communicate with horses in a special way and it was a joy to watch him work his teams. He maintained a team for pleasure well into the modern age of tractors. Along with farming Bud had a custom corn shelling business. This gave him the opportunity to work with many of the area farmers. He also liked antiques, especially antique machinery and attended many threshing bees around the country. Going to auctions was a favorite outing for Bud, where he found many valuables over the years. He also liked to make chairs out of old steel tractor seats.

Above all, Bud loved his family. His wife and children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his true treasures. They will all hold many precious memories of his special sayings, his ability to read the weather the old fashioned way, and sharing ice cream, because, “a little ice cream won’t hurt anybody”. He was a very special man to many and he will be greatly missed.

Nathan is survived by his wife of 62 years, Irene Knobloch; daughters, Connie Knobloch of La Crosse, Indiana, Kathy J. Knobloch of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; sons, Kelvin (Marion) Knobloch of Illiopolis, Illinois, Tom (Jeri) Knobloch of Madison, Kansas, Levi (Vicki) Knobloch of Redwood Falls, Minnesota, and Denis (Jackie) Knobloch of Alvord, Iowa; thirteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Matilda (Elmer) Fehr of West Bend, Iowa, Dena (Calvin) Weiss of Sabetha, Kansas, Eunice Knobloch of West Bend, Iowa, Gladys Knobloch of Lester, Iowa and Betty (Clarence) Dietrich of Salem, Oregon; brothers Arthur (Elgeva) Knobloch of Lester, Iowa and Dale (Mary) Knobloch of Larchwood, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Lydia Knobloch; brothers, Edwin and Orvie Knobloch; sister, Ella Schmidt and brother-in-law, Eugene Schmidt.
