SCHREURS, MILDRED GUNTER 1900-1998
Mildred A. Schreurs, age 97 of Larchwood, died Tuesday, July 14, at Palisades Manor in Garretson, SD.

Mildred Agnes (Gunter) Schreurs was born December 27, 1900 in Rock Valley, Iowa, the daughter of John and Cecelia (Crowley) Gunter. She grew up and attended school in Rock Valley and graduated from high school in 1919. After high school, Mildred attended Cedar Falls, Iowa Teachers College. Upon receiving her teaching certificate, Mildred returned to northwest Iowa and taught country school east of Inwood for five years.

On January 30, 1929, Mildred was united in marriage to George Schreurs at Alvord and to this union were born three children, Georgiann, Myril and Arlyn. Following their marriage, they farmed near Larchwood until moving into town in 1963. Mildred had been a longtime member of The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood and also the Foresters.

Her family remembers Mildred as a very good cook and how she enjoyed preparing meals for her family. Throughout most of her life, Mildred was interested in the world around her, whether it was church activities, fishing, baseball or painting. Her painting included doing landscapes and still life pictures.

For the past eleven years, Mildred had health difficulties which caused her to become dependent on others. She was a resident of Prince of Peace Nursing Home in Sioux Falls for a while before staying at Fellowship Village in Inwood and the Canton Nursing Home. For the past seven years, Mildred had been a resident of Palisades Manor in Garreston, SD. Surviving is her husband of sixty-nine years, George Schreurs, along with a son, Arlyn Schreurs and his wife, Clarice, all of Larchwood. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and a half sister, Adeline Vint of San Diego, CA.

Preceding Mildred in death were her parents, son Myril, daughter Georgiann and two grandchildren Vaughn and Curtis Schreurs.

Funeral Mass was held Saturday, July 18 at St. Mary Church in Larchwood with Fr. John Vakulskas celebrating. Burial followed at the Larchwood Cemetery.
