Memorial services for Loretta DeWandel, 63, of Larchwood, Lyon county, Iowa, were held June 10, 1992 at United Church of Christ, Larchwood.

She died June 7, 1992 at McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Loretta Kapanke was born February 5, 1929 at Turtle Lake, North Dakota. She moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in 1947 and married Donald Ritter in April, 1948. She later married Carl DeWandel February 16, 1979 in Larchwood.

She worked with her husband as a custodian at West Lyon (Lyon county, Iowa) Community School for 10 years. She was also involved in raising sheep on the family farm.

Survivors include her husband; four sons, Allen Ritter of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Darwin Kapanke of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Greg DeWandel of Larchwood and Scott DeWandel of Anchorage, Alaska; six daughters, Peggy Foss, Pamela Ritter and Rhonda Parrin, all of Sioux Falls, Terri Lynn Ashbrook of Long Beach, California, Joyce Christensen of Elgin, Minnesota and Kris Snyders of Larchwood; 19 grandchildren; two brothers, Harold of Beulah, North Dakota and Evanor of turtle Lake, North Dakota, and six sisters, Cerina Gill and Bea Kapanke, both of Sand Diego, California, Delores Nothdurft of Sioux Falls, Kitty Faucett of Rio Linda, California, Frances Grueneich of Washburn, North Dakota and Ruth Schlafmann.
