Ferdinand Long was born April 26, 1897 at Larchwood, Iowa to Charley and Emma Long. On October 22, 1924, he married Helena McCain in the church parsonage at Granite, Iowa. The couple lived on the same farm near Harrisburg since their marriage and retired in 1980. After their retirement, they continued to make their home there. Ferdinand was a dedicated farmer being especially proud of his hog operation throughout the years.

Mrs. Long passed away October, 20, 1895.

Ferdinand was a charter member of the Evangelical Covenant Church. His family and his church were important in his life.
Mr. Long was a United Sates Army veteran serving in World War I.

Grateful for having shared his life are his 2 sons, Charley Long, Pine River, Minnesota and Conrad Long, Manakin-Sabot, VA; 2 daughters, Mrs. James (Rosella) Vander Linden of Sioux Falls and Mrs. George (Ileene) Carlson, Eagan, MN; 21 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; 6 brothers, John and David Long, both of Larchwood, Iowa, Axel, Palmer and Joseph all of Sioux Falls and Carl Long, Harrisburg; and 4 sisters, Mrs. Gilmer (Betty) Hildring, Larchwood, Iowa, Amanda Long, Larchwood, Iowa, Mrs. Sylvia Maass, Garretson, South Dakota and Mrs. Fred (Josephine) Oltmanns, Lennox, South Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 1 brother, 1 sister and 3 grandchildren.
