Friends here received word last week of the death of Richard E. (Dick) Carpenter, age 65, at Glendora, Calif. He died on June 27, 1981.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Carpenter, and was born on July 1, 1915. He grew up in Rock Rapids, Lyon county, Iowa, and graduated from Wilson High School in 1933.

After attending Iowa State Teachers College, in Cedar Falls, where he graduated with a degree in electrical engineering in 1937.

He was in charge of the engineering department at Burrough's computer plant in Pasadena, Calif. until he retired because of his health.

Surviving are his widow; two sons,one daughter, three grandchildren and a brother, Ralph (Brud) who lives at Walport, Oregon.
