Funeral services for Carl Polzin, age 72, of Larchwood, Lyon county, Iowa, were held on Wednesday, June 17, 1981 at St. Mary's Catholic church there. Burial was in the church cemetery.

He died on Sunday, June 14, 1981 at McKennan hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, from injuries sustained in a fall.

Polzin was born on April 4, 1909 in Larchwood, to Ferdinant and Martha (Schive) Polzin. He grew up in this area and attended school here, and later went into farming.

On November 24, 1948 he married Mary Daniels Viereck at Sioux Falls, S.D., and they farmed until 1967 until moving to Larchwood. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the Lyon county highway department for eight years. Mrs. Polzin died on January 4, 1980.

Survivors include his children, David Viereck, Canton, S.D., Mrs. Alan (Linda) Snyders, and Mrs. Roger (Pauline) Herman, both of Larchwood; and Mrs. Preston (Carol) VerMeer, Hills, Minnesota; 17 grandchildren; four brothers: Claude, Marvin, and Melvin Polzin, all of Sioux Falls, and Kenny Polzin of Anchorage, Alaska; and four sisters: Mrs. Harry (Laura) Horn, of Larchwood, Mrs. Cliff (Marcella) Foss of Sioux Falls, Mrs. LeRoy (Alvina) Benson, Hartford, S.D., and Mrs. Geraldine Anderson, of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
