Mary Block, 95, of Little Rock died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at Sioux Center Nursing Facility.
Services were Saturday at Salem Reformed Church, Little Rock, with interment in Pleasant View Cemetery.
Mary Veenker was born Nov. 2, 1907, near George, the daughter of Peter and Minnie (Trei) Veenker. She grew up in the George area and graduated from George High School in 1926. After receiving her teaching certificate, she taught country school near George.
On Feb. 14, 1928, she married George Block. They farmed near Little Rock and Adrian, Minn. They retired in 1973.
Her husband died June 5, 1980. She moved to Rock Rapids in 1997 and to Sioux Center Nursing Facility four months ago.
At Salem Reformed Church she sang in the church choir, was a teacher for Sunday School, Bible School and catechism and leader in women's Bible study groups and Golden Hour Missionary Circle.
Survivors include one son, Robert of Orange City; two daughters, Ruth Ackerman of Lytton and Mary Block of Omaha, Neb.; 21 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Grace Rypkema of Sheldon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, George "Jud" and Peter; three daughters, Ethyl Peters, Clarice Rosenboom and Patricia Reynen; two brothers, Ralph and Raymond, and three sisters, Esther Bruhns, Jeanette Geerdes and Ruth Veenker.
