Yvonne Borman, 80, of Sanborn died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D.
Services were Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Sanborn, with interment in Riverview Cemetery, Rock Rapids.
Yvonne Iwen was born June 7, 1922, in Schleswig, the daughter of William and LeMorn (Reinking) Iwen. She graduated from Doon High School in 1939 and received a normal teaching certificate.
On Jan. 24, 1945, she married George Borman near Doon. They lived in Maryland one year while he was in the army. In 1946, they returned to Doon and began farming in the Doon and Rock Rapids areas. In 1960 they moved to Rock Rapids where she was a secretary for Lyon County Farm Bureau and Occo Feeds several years. In 1970 they moved to Sheldon for one year before returning to Rock Rapids. They owned and operated Eastside Grocery until 1974. She began her banking career in March 1975 in Rock Rapids. They later moved to Rock Valley where she managed United Federal Savings 14 years.
Her husband died in 1983. She retired in 1989 and moved to Sheldon where she and her daughter owned Lil Guys and Gals. She returned to Rock Rapids for four years. For the past three years she has resided in Sheldon.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Sallee) Van Veldhuizen of Sanborn; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two great-grandsons; one stepgreat-granddaughter and one brother, Charles of Doon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Rebecca, and one brother, William Jr.
