Enkel Ackerman and his wife Hermina were married in Germany, came to the United States, settled in Illinois and spent most of their married lives there. Eventually their children decided to settle in Northwest Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Enkel Ackerman were old at this time. It is not known how long they were in this area, but both are buried in the Zoar Cemetery.

The Ackerman children that came to the George area are Mike (married to Mary Hassebroek); and Angeline (married to John Donker). Those who came to Northwest Iowa, but in the immediate George vicinity were Reemt (married Etta Klaassen); Peter (married Margaret Hassebroek); and Andrew.
