In Response To: obit on John Salter Blue? (Jo Fuller)

From the Chariton Democrat August 21, 1896

John S. Blue, the oldest resident in this county, died after a few weeks illness with paralysis at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clara McMasters, in this city on Wednesday morning, August 12, at the age of ninety-one years, five months and eleven days. Thus one by one, the way worn and weary pioneers of life's highway , reach the great river, and casting off their burdens, sail silently away, o'er the still waters, to join the circle of the loved and lost, that have gone on before. Mr.John S. Blue was born in Fleming county, Kentucky, on March 1, 1805. At the age of twenty-one he moved to Indiana and from there to Illinois. In 1850 he came to Lucas county where he has since resided, the last fourteen years of his life having been spent in Chariton with his daughter, Mrs. Clara McMasters. Five children, two daughters and three sons, are left to mourn the death of a kind and affectionate father. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. A.C. Ormond, pastor of the Presbyterian church, were held on Wednesday forenoon at 10 o'clock from the residence of Mrs. McMasters, after which the remains were taken to Russell for internment. Mr.Blue was identified with the early history of Lucas county and during his residence here of forty-six years has witnessed all the changing scenes and events. He was of a retiring but kindly disposition and was highly esteemed for his many noble qualities. The death of this venerable man will be mourned by a host of warm friends. In their sorrow the relatives have the sympathy of the entire community.
