Gladys Smith was born June 21, 1893, near Farmington to Henry and Anna Reineke. She passed away February 16, 1981 in Chariton at the age of 87 years.

On December 30, 1915 she was united in marriage to Ray Smith at her family home in Van Buren Co. They later moved to Marion Co., where their two children were born. They are Margaret (Jesse) Askren of Chariton and Robert (Clenna) Smith of Phoenix, AZ.

She accepted Christ at an early age and the church was a focal point in her life as long as her health permitted. She enjoyed Christian radio broadcasts and reading her Bible. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chariton.

She is survived by her daughter Margaret (Jesse) Askren; son Robert (Clenna) Smith; five grandchildren, Holly Kenyon of Des Moines, Jill Moore, Gary Smith and John Smith of Phoenix, and Mary Littleton of Essex. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Hester Crouse of Monrovia, CA; nieces and nephews and friends.

Arrangements were made by Fielding Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald Stein conducting.

Burial was in the Olive Chapel Cemetery in Marion County.
