OBITUARY Chariton Herald Feburary 15, 1894 Rachel Williams Clapp
Died, of heart disease at her home in Chariton Iowa February 11, 1894, Mrs. Rachel Williams Clapp in the 68th year of her age. The deceased was born in Belmont County, Ohio July 29, 1826 she was united in marriage to Solomon Clapp, March 17, 1858, they lived for some time in Wayne County, Iowa and came to Lucas County, Iowa bout the year 1880. The deceased united with the Methodist church in her younger years, and during her declining years has been sustained and comforted by God’s grace and a bright Christian hope. After a sickness of only one week she has gone to meet her husband who preceded her to the other world over three years ago. One only sister, Mrs. Margaret May of English township, Lucas county, Iowa and one only brother Casper Williams of west Bronville, PA, are left to mourn her loss. There also are three sons, Casper, John and Grant who now mourn the loss of a kind affectionate tender mother. The sympathy of friends and neighbors is theirs in their sorrow and grief. We shall never see her face again on earth, but may we all in humble trust and obedience follow Him who is the resurrection and the life and be prepared to meet again the loved ones on the other shore. The funeral service was held at the Presbyterian church in English township, by Rev. W.C. Atwood, after which the remains were interred in the cemetery nearby. The children of the deceased wish to return their thanks to the friends and neighbors for their kindness during the sickness and death of their mother.
