Lily Gay Steinbach, 47, was killed instantly about 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 1968, in a one car accident four miles north of North London on a blacktop county road, when the car she was driving went off the road, over an embankment, and into a farmyard.

Gay had been employed at Mercy Hospital in Burlington the past three weeks. She was born February 1, 1921, the daughter of Ira F. and Lula (Shupe) Angstead, and was a lifelong resident of Chariton.

Surviving include her husband, Louis; one daughter, Elizabeth Sellers of Lincoln, NE; three sons, William A. of Omaha and Fred and Robert of Chariton; three grandchildren; a twin sister, Fay Olson of Des Moines; two other sisters, Irene Williams of Aurora, IL, and Mary Jane Smith of Chariton and one brother, Don of Rockford, IL.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister Iris Davenport, and a brother, PFC Mahlon B. Angstead died in Germany in WWII, in 1944.

The funeral service was at the Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. C.J. Gall. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Arrangements were made by Beardsley-Fielding Funeral Home.
