Hiason M Finch, was born in Hillsboro, Highland County, Ohio on Sept 3, 1844 and passed away at his home near Columbia at 1:35 am on March 8, 1934. his age at death was 89 years 6 months and 4 days. The deceased was a member of the Union Army, uniting with an Infantry Co. from Ohio. He was taken prisoner at Harpers Ferry by they Confederates and was later exchanged and released. A short time later he united with the 33rd Cavalry from Illinois where he served until the war was ended. A few years later he came to Iowa where he has since lived most of the time. He served in several offices of Public trust, being a member of the Lucas Board of Supervisors at the time the present court house was erected. About 40 years ago he gave his heart to God and the principles the of Christian religion have been his guide down through the years. He was a man of strong convictions regarding sin and righteousness and always took delight in contending for the right, as he saw it. He was a member of the Nazarene Church in Chariton. He took great delight in attending church services and was permitted to attend as late as 4 weeks ago. He had enjoyed hale health until about three weeks ago when he was stricken with Brights disease and fought a losing fight, until death relieved him of physical pain and weakness and he quietly slipped out to meet his saviour. Those left to mourn are the wife, Mrs. Laura Finch and eight children as follows:
