DANIEL JOHNSON
Daniel "Danny" Harry Johnson, 72, of Chariton passed away Monday, December 12, 2011, peacefully at home.
Dan was born on December 9th, 1939 to Harry and Ruth (George) Johnson in Chariton, Iowa.
During his childhood years, Dan's family moved to numerous locations due to his father's employment. He attended school in Nebraska, Des Moines, and Chariton.
After graduating high school in 1958, Dan entered military service with the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in England after completion of his training. During this time, he was united in marriage to Alberta Abrahamson on February 5th, 1961 and blessed with two sons, Brent and David.
Upon leaving the military, Dan worked at several locations in Iowa as a power plant engineer. He also was co-inventor of Camperflow Windbreakers with an assembly plant located in Chariton until 1974. After the company was sold, he was employed at 3M in Knoxville as a power plant engineer for 8 years. He then spent the last 30 plus years in insurance sales along with purchasing Midwest Insurance Services with his son, Brent, in Corydon.
Dan had a variety of interests, including: amateur radio, metal detecting, arrowhead hunting, camping, fishing, reading, gardening, and spending time working on the computer. He was a loving husband and father, always putting the needs of his family first.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge in Chariton.
Dan is survived by his wife Alberta of 50 years; son, Brent Johnson and wife Cathy of Chariton; son, David Johnson and wife Kim of Eagan, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Brandon Johnson of Chariton, Amanda Allen and husband Sean of Chariton, and Aubri and Kurt Johnson of Eagan, Minnesota. He is survived by one great-grandson, Samson Allen of Chariton; one Uncle, Dwight George of Grinnell, Iowa; and one Aunt, Itata George of Ottumwa, Iowa as well as a host of relatives and friends.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents.
He will be missed by many.
