Orin Westfall, son of Jesse Addison and Sarah Ann Darrah Westfall, was born Jan. 21, 1898, at Knoxville, Iowa. He passed away Aug. 16, 1962 at Los Angeles, Calif.
Mr. Westfall, a butcher by trade, had a very long and distinguished military service record, having served in the Merchant Marines during World War I and was a Navy man during World War II.
He was a member of the crew of the aircraft carried "Hornet" from the time of its commission until it went down. He later served on a seaplane tender in the Solomon region.
Mr. Westfall was baptized in the First Christian church of Knoxville as a young man.
Survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Alice Perkinson of Compton, Calif. and Mrs. Nina Garber of Burlingame, Calif., and several other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, 1962, at the Beardsley-Fielding Funeral Home. Military services were conducted by the John Myers V.F.W. Post No. 3519 of Knoxville. Interment was in the Oak Hill cemetery.
