J.W. STOUT died at his home near Newbern, Sunday, at the age of 78 years, 11
months and 17 days, with diseases peculiar to old age. He was one of the
first settlers of this county, and served his country during the Civil War
in the 34th Iowa Regiment, and was a member of Iseminger Post of the G.A.R.
He was a true Christian man and was held in the highest esteem by all who
knew him.

The funeral services were held at the home Tuesday, at 11 o'clock a.m. and
interment made in the Newbern Cemetery, the members of the G.A.R. of
Chariton having charge of the services.
