~ OBITUARY ~

MRS. AMOS L. LATHAM died at her home in Russell, Iowa, Tuesday morning,
January 28, 1908, at 2 o'clock, after a short illness of an acute attack of
la grippe, aged 55 years and two months.

MRS. LATHAM's maiden name was SARAH ELIZABETH GORE. She was born in Preston
New London County, Connecticut, October 28, 1842. She was united in
marriage to AMOS L. LATHAM, of Ledyard, new London County, Connecticut,
December 25, 1862. To this union were born six children, five sons and one
daughter, all of whom survive the mother, save ASA J., who died in infancy.
The children are EDWARD G., JOHN H., JAMES C., RUTH Y., and HARRY, all of
whom are engaged in business in or near Russell.

MR. and MRS. LATHAM moved to Fulton County, Illinois, in 1865, and to Ford
County, that State, in 1873. They came to Iowa in 1901, and settled on a
farm two miles east of Russell, moving to their present home in Russell in
the spring of 1905.

MRS. LATHAM's grandfather was born in Fort of Wyoming, Pennsylvania, three
days before the massacre, in which his father, four brothers, and two
brothers-in-law were killed.

Besides a loving husband, four sons and one daughter, she leaves a number of
relatives and friends to mourn her loss.

In our short acquaintance, our impression of her was that she was of a
rather quiet, retiring disposition, happy in her home duties, and very eager
to care for and provide comfort for her husband and children, a kind
neighbor and a sincere friend. The sympathy of the community will go out to
the grief stricken family, their sorrow being especially great on account of
the sister and daughter having just returned from the hospital in Ottumwa,
where she had but recently undergone an operation for appendicitis.

The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church Thursday afternoon
at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. I.A. Soxe. The floral tributes were very
pretty and the services were listened to by a large audience. Interment
followed in the Russell Cemetery.
