The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, February 27, 1908

HERMAN NELSON, of Wilcox, Saskatchewan, Canada, son of MR. and MRS. SWAN
NELSON, of Warren Township, was born in Warren Township, this county, on
January 22, 1876, and departed this life Tuesday morning, February 18, 1908
at 2:45 o'clock, at the Minneapolis Swedish Hospital, Minneapolis, Minnesota
Two weeks before his demise he was taken ill with a malady that baffled
the skill of the attending physician, and upon the advice, his brother,
sister and a trained nurse from Moose Jaw Hospital, left Wilcox, Canada, on
the evening of February 16 to take him to his former home near Chariton,
Iowa. Not until the party reached Elbow Lake, Minnesota, where a physician,
who had been telegraphed for, boarded the train, did they learn that he was
suffering with cerebrospinal meningitis.

Upon arrival at Minneapolis he was taken to the Swedish Hospital, as his
condition would not permit a continuation of the journey. He was conscious
all evening and remained so to the very last. he was very happy and willing
to go to the Heavenly home, bade his brother and sister, who were at his
bedside, a smiling good-bye, and said, "Come on -- all of you."

Funeral services were held from the Swedish Lutheran Church last Friday
afternoon at 1 o'clock, and the remains were tenderly laid to rest in the
Chariton Cemetery.

Deceased resided in Warren Township until three years ago when he and his
brother moved to Wilcox, Canada.

He was an active member of the Swedish Lutheran Church for many years. He
was a model young man, a kind, loving son and brother, and will be greatly
missed in the home circle. May the God of all comfort, console the
sorrowing ones.

He is survived by his parents, and by his brother ARTHUR, of Wilcox, Canada,
and two sisters, MRS. AD. MILLER, of Wilcox, Canada and ETTA of Warren
Township.
