EDWARD EBENEZER SARGENT was born in Berkshire, England, September 14, 1831,
and died at his home in Cedar Township, Lucas County, Iowa, Tuesday,
February 25, 1908, at the age of 76 years, 5 months and 12 days.

MR. SARGENT spent his boyhood, until 19 years of age, in England, coming to
America in 1849. He first located at Davenport, Iowa. August 6, 1853, he
was united in marriage to SARAH ANN WRIGHT, of Rockingham, Scott County,
Iowa. To this union were born two children -- a son, JOHN JOY, who died in
infancy, and a daughter, MRS. ROWENA HAYWOOD, of Russell, Iowa, who survives
him. MRS. SARA ANN SARGENT died at Davenport, Iowa, October 15th, 1861.

In the winter of 1864, MR. SARGENT came to Lucas County, Iowa. On June 6th,
he was united in marriage to MRS. ELIZABETH ETHEREDGE, who died August 6th,
1888. MR. SARGENT was a true friend, a good neighbor, and an honored
citizen of Cedar Township, serving a number of years in different official
capacities. He was a man true to his convictions, expressing himself
regardless of public opinion. Herein lay his true worth.

he was converted and joined the M.E. Church at Davenport in the winter of
1863. His membership was transferred to the Russell M.E. Church, of which
he was a member at the time of his death. The funerals services were held at
the Bethel Church, Thursday, February 27, 1908, at 1 p.m., conducted by D.J.
Shenton, of Russell, and the deceased laid to rest in the McDermott Cemetery
