The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, January 23, 1908

MARY FITZER SIRES was born in Lawrence County, Ohio, May 6, 1823, and died
at her home in Wayne County, Iowa, Jan. 17, 1908, at the age of 84 years, 8
months and 11 days. In the year 1831, at the early age of eight years, she
moved with her parents to Cass County, Indiana, where she was married
October 24, 1844, to GEORGE SIRES. To this union were born eight sons and
three daughters, all of whom survive her except her husband who died in May,
1903, and a son ALEXANDER, who died in the Army during the Civil War, and a
son and daughter dying in infancy.

In 1855 she moved from Indiana accompanied by her husband and parents, to
Wayne County, Iowa, onto the farm where she has since lived. She united
with the M.E. Church in early womanhood and lived a consistent life.
Funeral services were conducted at her home by Rev. A.W. Armstrong. The
burial was at the Fitzer Cemetery.

Thanks are extended by the relatives of the deceased for help and sympathy
rendered in this time of sorrow. Thus has passed one of the pioneers of
this community, who shared the joys and sorrows of wedded life for nearly
sixty years.
