QUINCY ADAM SHIRER was born in Muskingum, Ohio, June 26, 1827, and died July
19, 1907. He was married to MISS JULIA ANN WERTS January 4, 1849. To this
union were born two children, SUSANNAH, now MRS. HENRY ZIMMER, and ISAAC
NEWTON, who died in infancy. MRS. SHIRER died April 7, 1854. He was
married a second time, September 6, 1855 to MISS SUSANNAH WERTS, and to this
union eight children were born: ETTA, who died in infancy; HARVEY at the age
of twelve, and WILBUR, at the age of forty-one years. Those who survive him
are MRS. ZIMMER and CHARLES near Russell, and MISS LIZZIE still at home;
HOMER of Knoxville; JOHN of Ridgeway, Mo., and MRS. ALICE WATTS of Ogden,
Utah.

He was converted and joined the Lutheran Church at the age of nineteen, and
soon after coming to Iowa in l876 he united with the Presbyterian Church of
which he has ever since been a consistent and faithful member. He leaves,
besides the children, all of whom were present at the funeral except MRS.
WATTS, a faithful companion. He was honored and respected by everybody who
knew him. The funeral was attended by a large concourse of friends and
relatives, conducted by Rev. S.A. Soxe, from the Presbyterian Church. The
funeral discourse was based on the text in 2d Cor. 5:1-4. Subject, "The
Christian View of Death." The remains were laid to rest in the Russell
Cemetery. The family have the sympathy of the entire community in this time
of bereavement.
