The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, July 25, 1907

On last Friday afternoon, JAMES M. RHODES, who was a teamster in Chariton,
was hauling cinders from the light plant, and went to a well across the
street to get a drink of water. On returning he threw up his hands, made an
ejaculation, fell and in a moment expired. He had previously been troubled
with a heart affection, and it is believed the intense heat brought on the
fatal attack.
