Saturday afternoon about one o'clock MISS FLOSSIE FLETCHER, a young woman
about eighteen years old, committed suicide. The tragedy occurred at the
residence of Samuel Jones, one block north of the Q depot, where MISS
FLETCHER had been making her home for some time, Mrs. Jones being an aunt of
hers. The deed was deliberately planned and executed. She laid down upon
the floor with her head upon a pillow, placed the muzzle of a 32 caliber
revolver to her right temple and fired it. Death resulted almost instantly.
Coroner Storie was called and upon viewing the remains and reading a letter
written by her and addressed to a young man she had been keeping company
with, which was full of accusation and good advice to him, he decided not to
hold an inquest and issued a certificate of death accordingly.

MISS FLETCHER had made an attempt to end her life a few days previous by
taking some drug but which did not prove successful. Thus another young
life has gone, like a flash of lightning, out into the great beyond. She
had her troubles and her sorrows and brooded over them until they seemed
greater than she could bear, and rashly concluded to end them all. Someone
somewhere knows why she did this rash act, and someone knows they are
responsible for it, and in all their future life they will never be able to
forget it, and waking or sleeping the horror of it all like "Banquo's ghost"
will refuse to stay down.

Funeral services were held at the home at two o'clock Sunday, conducted by
Rev. A.H. Stote, who by a few manly and well directed words drew a lesson
that should be a benefit to the community, after which her body was laid
away in Russell Cemetery.
