The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, September 5, 1907

FIELDIN MARTIN was born in Decatur County, Indiana, on Feb. 10, 1832. On
June 8, 1854, he was married to NANCY JANE CHASE. To this union were born
three children, one son and two daughters. One of the latter, MRS. REBECCA
NELSON of Ford, Kansas, still survives him. MR. and MRS. MARTIN moved to
Lucas County in 1873 where they have since lived. FIELDEN MARTIN departed
this life on Aug. 23, 1907, at 9:30 o'clock, his age being 75 years, 6
months and 13 days. In his young manhood Brother MARTIN confessed faith in
Christ and united with the Baptist Church. On coming to Lucas he affiliated
himself with the Church of Christ in Christian Union in which faith he
continued until his change came. Of the near relatives there remain one
daughter, three step children and several grandchildren, his wife having
preceded him about three years ago.

A large concourse of friends honored the memory of this old citizen in
attendance upon his funeral held at the M.E. Church on Aug. 25, 1907, at 2 p
m. MR. MARTIN's long time friend Pastor, Rev. Pond, being ill, was not able
to officiate and the service was taken in charge by the M.E. Pastor, M.D.
Wickard.
