Thomas Simpson Dawson died at the Soldiers Home at Marshalltown,
Sunday, Feb 17, of brain trouble and old age. His remains were brought
here Monday and taken to the home of his son, William, where funeral
services were held Wednesday at two-thirty, conducted by Rev. Nathan
Evans of the M. E. church and Rev. F. B. Palmer of the Baptist church.
Interment was made in the Chariton cemetery. Deceased was born May 17,
1819. When a child he moved with his parents to Marion county, Indiana,
where he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Prickett, October 11,
1842. They were the parents of ten children, only four of whom are
living, William, John and Austin, of Chariton, and Henry R of
Burlington. Mrs. Dawson passed away sixteen years ago. Deceased served
three years in the war of the rebellion and was honorably discharged at
the close of the war. Members of the G.A.R. attended the funeral of
their comrade.
