The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, March 14, 1907

At the family home in Cleveland on Friday, March 1, SARAH, wife of JOHN M.
HOOPER, aged 36 years, 8 months and 23 days.

SARAH, daughter of JOHN LUKE, SR., was born at Galva, Ill., June 8, 1868.
Her parents came to Lucas when she was a small child and she grew to
womanhood in this locality. She was married to J.W. HOOPER at Zero, Dec. 25
1884. Three years they remained at Zero, then moved to Old Cleveland, and
later to Kob where MR. HOOPER followed his vocation as miner. In 1899 they
moved to Cleveland No. 4, where for two years MR. H. was employed at the
shaft, then moved to a farm south of Cleveland where they remained until
last September. Eleven children were born to this union of whom eight still
are left to comfort the bereaved husband.

She had not been in good health for some time past and a few days before her
death her malady developed into pneumonia and her decline was perceptible
from the beginning. To make even more grief for the stricken family, an
infant son was taken ill last Thursday and died at about the same time as
the mother.
