Number of Years

Friends and relatives in Burlington received the news yesterday of the passing of Mrs. Catharine Lusk, who was one of the oldest of Iowans. Catharine Johnston was born in Virginia, October 18, 1811. At the age of fourteen years, she went with her family to Greensburg, Ind., where she was married to John Lusk, of Covington, Ky., August 27, 1837. He was a veteran of the war of 1812. Mr. and Mrs. Lusk came to Burlington in 1840, and soon thereafter they located on a farm in Franklin township. The union was blessed with four children. Mr. Lusk passed away April 15, 1857. Mrs. Lusk became a member of Baptist crowd at the old Stone church north of Burlington and remained true to the faith of her choice to the end. While of course she felt the burdens of old age, she was comparatively strong and retained interest in many of the things of this world to the end. When she celebrated her 100th anniversary, her niece, Mrs. J.W. Topping and other relatives from the Des Moines county paid her a visit and found her relatively alert and strong. She passed the late evening of her life at the home of her only surviving son at Chariton, where she was given the most loving care and attention.

The remains will be brought to Burlington for interment.
