JOSEPH F. DAVIS

Joseph F. Davis was born June 17, 1862, near Ollie, in Keokuk county, Iowa, and died at his home in Benton township on January 25th, 1916, aged 53 years, 7 months and 8 days.

When a boy he moved with his parents to Wapello county, near Highland Center, where in 1885 he was united in marriage to Isabel Purdy. To this union two children were born, one dying in infancy, and the other, Mrs. Annie Bogard on September 11, 1909. The wife passed away on June 17, 1888.

In 1890 he was married to Mary Jane Miller. To this union two children were born, John Henry and Flossie May. In 1900 he moved with his wife and children to Lucas county, Iowa, where he resided until his death. He is survived by his wife and two children. To the sorrowing ones the sympathy of the community will be extended.

Mr. Davis was honored wherever known. He stood high in the estimation of his fellow men, who respected him for his noble traits of character in all his relations. He was upright, straightforward and honorable; liberal, broad minded and progressive, a man of modern views, he was ever ready to give his aid and material support to progressive enterprises and to any movement which was for the advancement of the community's interests.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. J. H. Yaggy of the U. B. church of Des Moines, formerly of this city, was held at the Otterbein church on Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock, after which interment took place in the Chariton cemetery.

[Submitter's note: Joseph Flint Davis was the twin brother of David Baker Davis who was also living in Lucas Co. in 1910 according to the U.S. Fed. Census and then moved to Macon Co., MO (1920 Census) he died Jan. 16, 1940 and is buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Macon Co., MO.]
