Daniel George, 94, Chariton, died Friday, July 13, at the Lucas County Care Facility of a stroke.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 17, at the Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton with burial in the Chariton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
He was born March 10, 1896, in New York to Daniel and Christena George. In 1923 he moved to Chariton from Russell and in 1923 he began work for the CB&Q Railroad, serving as roundhouse foreman for 38 years and retiring in 1961.
He is survived by his wife Vergie whom he married June 15, 1918, in Chariton; two sons Dwight George, Grinnell, and Paul George, Ottumwa; one daughter Ruth Johnson, Williamson; one sister Margaret Farnsworth, Shortsville, N.Y.; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.
