Wendell Skinner passed from this life on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at Lucas County Memorial Hospital in Chariton, Iowa.
Wendell was born September 23, 1911 on the family farm near Lucas to Myrtle Lee Bishop Skinner and Henry James Skinner.
Wendell graduated from Osceola High School in 1926 and worked for area farmers and with his parents on the family farm until 1940.
He began hauling fuel with DX in 1940 and then Standard Oil in 1942.
Wendell and Dorothy Mauk were married on April 29, 1939 in Russell, Iowa.
They became the parents of two children, Marvin and Mary Jo.
They made their home in Lucas for 37 years where Wendell served on the school board for 20 years and with the Lucas Volunteer Fire Department for the time he lived in Lucas.
Wendell joined the Paul Revere Masonic Lodge in Lucas in 1944 and became a Master Mason.
He received his 50 year certificate and continued his membership until his death marking a milestone of 69 years as a member.
Wendell was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy in (December 1988) and his son Marvin (April 2013).
His siblings, deceased are Twyla (Wendell) Woods, Maurice (Arwilda) Skinner, Evelyn (William) Campbell, and Audrey Larson.
Other relatives preceding him in death are Florence (Jack) Harris, Jim (Wilma) Mauk, and Roger Taylor Allen.
He is survived by his daughter Mary Jo (Mike) Gibbs of Broken Arrow, OK and daughter-in-law Shelby Skinner of Bondurant.
Grandchildren: Kevin (Stephanie) Skinner of Grimes, IA; Scott Gibbs of Oklahoma City, OK; Amy (Brad) Keeling of Tulsa, OK.
Great grandchildren: Caitlin, Clare, and Camren Keeling of Tulsa and Archer Skinner of Grimes.
A sister-in-law Geraldine Allen of Chariton, a brother-in-law Edward Larson of Topeka, KS and many nieces and nephews also survive.
For the past 7 years Wendell has resided at Northridge Assisted Living Center in Chariton.
He was just a few months away from his 102nd birthday and was looking forward to another party.
He also knew that he was going to be a great-grandfather again on August 1 and on February 4, 2014.
