For Many Years He Had Been One of the Leading Democrats of Iowa

Des Moines, Ia., Jan. 11-Samuel L. Bestow of Charitan, Iowa, Lieutenant-Governor under Horace Boies and the only Democrat ever elected Lieutenant-Governor, died yesterday afternoon of pneumonia and rheumatism. He was born in 1823 and had been a leading Democrat of the state for many years.
