Died: Mon., Aug. 20, 2012

Joan Louise (Fulton) Halferty, daughter of James and Frances (Parkin) Fulton was born October 28, 1935 near Derby, Iowa. She passed away August 19, 2012, at Pioneer Ridge Nursing Home in Lawrence, KS, after a valiant battle with cancer. She was 76 years, 9 months, and 21 days old.

She was married to David "Alvin" Halferty, on May 16, 1959, at the First Baptist Church in Chariton. They had three sons. David of Lawrence, KS: Daniel of St. Charles, MO: and Timothy of Topeka, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents James and Frances, her in-laws Francis "David" and Elva Halferty, her husband Alvin, brother William, niece Kathi Gabrielson, sister-in-law Lois Stone, and brother-in-law Dale Harvey.

She is survived by her sons David and wife Ann, Daniel, and Timothy: grandson Evan: sister Janette Pollitt and husband Frank of Belmond, brother Wayne and wife Marie of Des Moines: and two sisters-in-law Davida Harvey of Des Moines and Frances Schultz and husband Ken of Newton: and also several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Joan spent most of her life in Lucas County. She grew up on a farm northwest of Lucas, IA. She graduated from Lucas High School in 1954. After high school Joan attended AIB Business School and later worked for Banker's Life and Trust Company in Des Moines. Joan and Alvin moved to Chariton in 1959 following their marriage. In addition to running their household, Joan also did bookkeeping for Alvin's carpentry business.

Joan and Alvin raised their sons in Chariton and enjoyed following their activities throughout high school, college, and into adulthood. Joan's never-ending support will be dearly missed.

Joan filled her spare time with numerous hobbies including gardening, listening to music, watching sports visiting friends and relatives, and traveling. During their travels, Joan and her husband managed to visit all 50 states and also made trips to Mexico and Canada. They filled countless journal pages with stories from their trips. ~ The Fielding Funeral Homes, Chariton, Iowa Aug 2012.
