Richard P. “Dick” Rodgers

Richard P. “Dick” Rogers, 87, of Newton died Tuesday, December 27, 2005, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Graveside services were Friday at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton. His body has been cremated. Memorials will be accepted in his name or to the American Heart Association and may be left at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.

The son of Pearl O. and Florence O. (Lewis) Rodgers, he was born Feb. 14, 1918, in Lucas. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. On Feb. 13, 1959, he married Wanetta M. Baker in Des Moines. He was a salesman for Capital City Barber Supply for more than 40 years and retired in 1990. He enjoyed fishing. He was a resident of Newton since 1945.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Larry R. Rodgers of Waukee and Stephen C. (Pamela) Rodgers of Newton; a daughter, Sharolyn (Carrol) Wheatcraft of Newton; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Edna Stewart of Grinnell and Marjorie Ver Schuur of Colfax.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson and a sister, Evelyn Rodgers. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News Thurs 5 Jan 2006.
