Obituary

Josiah William Phipps

Funeral services for Josiah William Phipps, who died Jan. 7, at Newton were held at the Lovilia United Brethern Church Thursday afternoon, Jan. 9, with rev. Donna Platner officiating. Burial was in the Lovilia Cemetery.

Mr. Phipps was the son of James and Mary Phipps and was born in Monroe County, Iowa, Oct. 3, 1858.

On March 13, 1881 he was united in marriage to Miss Emma C. Hayner and to this union nine children were born, eight of whom survive, James having died on Feb. 16, 1920.

Early in life he united with the United Brethern Church at Lovilia and was active in a quiet way during his entire life.

He is survived by his widow, eight children, Ola Noah of West Point, Eliza Richmond and Charlotte Davis of Lovilia, Eunice Noah of Knoxville, Earl and Sammy Phipps of Newton, Henry of Melrose and Ed of Chariton. Sixteen grandchildren and one great grand- child also survive. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Des Moines (IA) Register or The Newton (IA) Daily News, Fri 17 Jan 1930.
