GEORGE H. NISWENDER

George Harris Niswender, son of Samuel and Eliza Niswender, was born in Lucas county, Iowa, on May 18, 1857, and passed away at his home in Chariton on May 17, 1935, at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 29 days.

He grew to manhood in this vicinity and was married to Laura A. Douglass, of Chariton, on March 23, 1881, who precceded him in death on Jan. 11, 1919. to them four children were born, three sons and one daughter, all of whom are living.

Mr. Niswender was married on December 17, 1923 to Mrs. Mary. J. Langford of Chariton who survives him.

He spent his entire life in Lucas county, and was an active citizen until two years ago when he suffered a paralytic stroke which left him almost helpless. He bore his affliction cheerfuly and patiently, and always had a smile and pleasant word for his family and friends who tried in every way to lighten his suffering. He was always obliging and ever ready to help his neighbors and friends at any time. He often expressed his readiness and willingness to go at any time God chose.

He is survived by his wife and three sons and one daughter, Otis Niswender, of Norwood; Harley Niswender of Gillette, Wyo,; Orbin Niswender, of Chariton; and Mrs. Flossie Baker, of Lacona, Iowa; also twenty-two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and one brother Frank D. Niswender, and one half sister, Mrs. Rosetta Troxel, both of Chariton, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ on Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by the pastor W. A. Purdy, and internment was in the Chariton cemetery.
