SERVICES HELD FOR N. F. BATES ... Death came to Nicholas F. Bates, 83, early Sunday morning. He had been hospitalized for 10 days following a paralytic stroke, but had enjoyed good health for his age until that time.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 2:00 o'clock from the Gillette Funeral Chapel with the Rev. L. V. Osborne of the Presbyterian Church officiating.

Those acting as pallbearers were Joe Edwards, John Reed, Roy Haynes, Lloyd Beeler, Ben Lynn and Jim Wolff.

Mr. Bates was born at Kirkwood, Illinois on 5-20-1865. He moved with his parents to Mercer County, Missouri in 1880 where the family resided for several years before going to Lucas, Iowa.

He married to Rosett Trembly on April 5, 1886. Eight children were born to this couple. Three of whom preceded him in death Nicholas, Eunice and Blanche. Mrs. Bates passed away December 24, 1915.

Mr. Bates went to Ashland, Wisconsin in 1926, living there a year before moving to Gillette, Wyoming. This had been his home since that time.

He was a kindly man, and endeared himself to lend a helping hand where he saw it was needed.

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Mildred Percifield of Gillette, Mrs. Frank Nicely of Flemming, Colo. Mrs. Ernest Messinger of Flagler, Colo. and two sons Grant of Sedro Wooley, Washington and George Bates Gillette, Wyoming. Other survivors include 19 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren, a brother Henry F. Bates of Macksville, Kansas and a half brother Levy H. Fisher who lives in South Dakota.
