The Chariton Leader, Thursday, June 18, 1908

William Sloan Steele, a well known contractor and builder of Des Moines, for twenty years, died at his home in that city, Friday, June 12th, at 3:15 a.m. after an illness of eighteen weeks with lung trouble.
Funeral services were held at the 6th Presbyterian Church, Saturday, at 10 a.m., after witch the remains were brought to Chariton for interment. A short prayer and song service was held at the home of his brother-in-law, George Scott, conducted by Rev. McCullagh, Sunday, at 1:30 p.m.
Mrs. Steele will be remembered as Mary J. Scott, daughter of Cyrus Scott, of Benton Township, who with two children, Effie and Sylvester, survive him, also an aged father four brothers and two sisters are left to mourn his departure.
