From the Chariton Patriot of October 2, 1913:

Floyd Matheney passed away at his home in west Chariton yesterday afternoon about 1 o'clock, at the age of about twenty years, after an illness of about two weeks with typhoid fever. He was thought to be getting along nicely until about midnight Tuesday night when pneumonia developed which resulted in his death. He was married about a year and a half ago to Miss Agnes McKenna, who with a baby daughter but a few months old, survives him. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Matheney, of this city, and had resided here from childhood. For some time he had been employed at the C.B. & Q. depot as assistant baggageman. "Curly", as he was familiarly known, was well liked by all who knew him. He possessed a pleasant disposition and was energetic and industrious. His sudden death is deplored by a host of friends who will extend heartfelt sympathy to the sorrowing wife, parents, brothers and sisters who survive. The funeral will be held Friday at 2 o'clock at the home, with interment in the Chariton Cemetery.
