(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa February 7, 2007)

MCBRIDE, Howard Earl, 99, of Humeston, Iowa, died February 2, 2007 at Chariton Nursing and Rehab Center, Chariton, Iowa. Funeral services were held February 6 at Humeston Christian Methodist Church in Humeston, Iowa with Rev. Cathy Allen officiating. Burial was in Humeston Cemetery. Arrangements were through Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home of Leon.

Memorials may be given to the Humeston First Responders.

HOWARD McBRIDE ... Howard Earl McBride was born in Elmwood, Nebraska on September 8, 1907. His parents were William and Minnie McBride. Howard had 3 brothers and 1 sister. Howard passed away on February 2, 2007 at Chariton Nursing and Rehab Center at Chariton, Iowa at the age of 99 years, 4 months, and 25 days.

He graduated from Murdock, Nebraska High School.

Howard married Ellen (Keller) McBride on August 19, 1931. Ellen was from Ashland, Nebraska. They have 3 children: Dolores, Janet, and Allan. They farmed in Nebraska. For seven years Howard farmed in Wabash, Murdock Community. For three years he farmed near Union, Nebraska. In 1941 he bought a farm near Humeston, Iowa. He moved there in 1942, farming until retirement.

Howard and Ellen took Western Square Dancing lessons and were square dancers for nearly 20 years. They were Golf Club members at Humeston and golfed for several years. Howard was the Director on the REC Board for 9 years. He was a member of the Humeston Christian United Methodist Church. He also belonged to Odd Fellows and Rebekah Lodges.

Howard is survived by his wife of 75 years, Ellen McBride; daughters Dolores Beard and husband Billy of Humeston and Janet Abel and husband Calvin of Carlisle, Iowa; son Allan McBride and friend Nancy Jelinski of Northfield, New Jersey; 8 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild; 3 step-grandchildren; numerous step-great grandchildren and step-great-great grandchildren.
