DEATHS:

BELL -- At his residence in this city after a ten months' illness, on
Thursday, Nov. 2d, 1876, MR. W.K. BELL, aged 63 years and 5 days.

We copy the following remarks on the life and character of MR. BELL from the
last LEADER, and heartily endorse all the good words concerning him:

The deceased was a native of New Hampshire, and removed to southern Illinois
about thirty years ago, after residing there a number of years he came to
Burlington, Iowa, from thence to New London, Henry County, and about ten
years since settled in this city. He was related by birth to some of the
distinguished families of his native state, among them being James Grimes,
formerly Senator from Iowa. In all that constituted a worthy, honorable and
upright man, MR. BELL was particularly esteemed. He was sociable and
agreeable in all the public and private relations of life, as well as
generous and warm hearted toward all alike. His sickness was unusually long
and painful, but was borne with fortitude, while his last hours were calm
and peaceful.

He leaves a wife and three children, the latter being G.H. BELL, of Derby,
CHAS. BELL and MRS. D.M. BAKER, of this city. His funeral took place Friday
and was conducted under the auspices of the Masonic Lodge of this city, of
which he was a worthy member, and who buried him with Masonic honors. Peace
to his ashes and honor to his memory.
